During his 45 years as an architect, Dick designed more than 1, projects, including custom or spec homes; fostered more than 20 architectural firms; and won more than 70 awards, including the prestigious peer-sponsor and peer-selected title of Fellow from the AIA in Other projects included commercial buildings, resorts, hotels, retail, multifamily housing, golf facilities. With over 30 years of experience in Austin, Dick Clark is well known in the community and had a reputation of creating spaces that are warm, inviting and integral to the city fabric.
He was 72 years old. Clark was the principal of Dick Clark and Associates, an Austin-based architecture firm founded in He was honored with the inaugural Downtown Austin Alliance Award for his commitment to the revitalization of the downtown Warehouse District.
The Palma Plaza Spec residence is located in the Clarksville neighbourhood, west of the city's downtown area. The surrounding homes are mostly pre-war bungalows built in the American Craftsman style. To match the area's palette, the architects chose materials such as cut limestone and stucco finishes.
Clark's work led many to refer to him in Austin as the "Godfather of Contemporary Architecture" as it transformed areas across town including the Warehouse District and the South Congress area. But that didn't end with his death on Aug. This week, the University of Texas announced that Clark's estate left funds to establish two new endowments at the School of Architecture. The gifts should come as no surprise to anyone who knew the "Godfather of Austin Architecture.
